Questions

What families ask us

How does admissions work?

Families inquire, visit, apply in the winter and hear back in March.

Can we visit before we apply?

Yes. A visit day is a morning in a classroom and a talk with the head of school. Children are welcome to come along.

When are open houses and visit days?

Open houses are in October and January. Visit days are one Tuesday morning a month from October to March.

What is a day like?

It starts at eight with a teacher at the door. The morning is mostly lessons in French, lunch is at midday, and the afternoon opens with an English block.

What if my child knows no French?

Most children start with none. Teachers use songs, pictures and gestures, and children join in when they are ready. Tell us at the visit what your child already knows.

How does tuition work, and how do we ask about financial aid?

Tuition depends on the grade group and extended care. Financial aid is available; here is how to apply: a short form after the application, read by the head of school and two board members.

How big are the classes?

Each grade group has its own class size. The office confirms it at the visit.

What about lunch, dress and phones?

Families pack lunch or order a hot lunch by the month. Students wear a collared shirt and dark bottoms, and phones stay in backpacks.

Is there before and after care?

Extended care runs until 5:30 p.m., with a snack, homework time and time outdoors. Families can use it on the days they need.

When do we hear back, and how does the school stay in touch?

Every family hears in March, by letter and by phone. After that, teachers write home each week in English, and the office answers calls in English, French or Haitian Creole within a school day.
